Dots On The Clock

DOTS ON THE CLOCK
The oddest things remind me of you
The first day of fall, the last day of school
I was always a mess when I was with you
You were always soigne always so cool
I could walk you to your car or not whatever you want
I’m approaching this delicately
You look at me reluctantly
What have we got
Dots on the clock
When do the good times start
I should be glad for whatever it was
However brief it was still sweet
Blaming myself for whatever the cause
Am I too much or not enough
I could walk you to your car or not whatever you want
I’m approaching this delicately
You look at me reluctantly
What have we got
Dots on the clock
When does the heartache stop

Open Mic at Swifty's Delmar NY

I had a free Tuesday night, so I impulsively went to a local pub for Open Mic two weeks ago tonight.  I played three songs, "What I've Got To Offer Is The One Thing You Don't Want," "Princesse Tristesse," and "Who's Afraid of Sasha Grey."  There was a massive crowd there, and it seemed everyone was talking through my entire set, I don't know if they listened to any of what I played.  But I got a huge amount of applause at the end.  Maybe they were just happy I stopped.  Anyway, it was something I always wanted to do so, a small personal advancement.  It's important to make a note of these "little" moments, because you have to give yourself credit for achieving goals that look like absolutely nothing on the outside, but feel enormous on the inside.

NEW ALBUM: Our Lady of Perpetual Sin

Join me Friday night, June 21, from 7 to 9pm, when I’ll be performing at Mocha Lisa’s Cafe in Clifton Park NY, on 22 Clifton Country Road. Imagine my dismay after realizing it’s the same night of the Summer Solstice! In order to offset all those bad Summer vibes coming our way (humor me, if you will!), I decided to make it an “I Hate Summer” Solstice party. I’ll be playing some appropriate tunes from my original repertoire, such as “A Cold Dark Autumn,” and “September Shadows,” as well as covers like, “Summer’s Almost Gone,” by the Doors. So, on the first night of Summer this year, put on your Ray Bans, plenty of SPF 100, and stay inside with me!

Performing at Eden Cafe this Friday, May 24, 2019

So, the gig at the Indian Ladder Cidery and Brewery never happened because they cancelled all Friday night bands due to budgeting issues.  Your next opportunity to experience my brilliance is this Friday, May 24, at Eden Cafe, in Loudonville, NY, on 269 Osborne Road, Loudonville, NY 12211. Reserve ahead on Eventbrite.  Why reserve ahead?  Because at this point it looks like nobody is coming and the owner is afraid he is going to lose money by putting me on stage, which will make me feel like a schmuck and I'll get all depressed and stuff.  I'll play to an empty room, I don't care, because I know there are spirits out there who will enjoy it, but they have no place to put their wallets, see?  Other than that, I think my music is really good, you'll be amazed, and it's also a new release event, because my new album, "Our Lady of Perpetual Sin," is being released worldwide the same day!  IF YOU'RE READING THIS, OMG, PLEASE COME, IT'S REALLY IMPORTANT!!!

She Looks Like a Cat

SHE LOOKS LIKE A CAT
I got close
Closer than most
For a while
I remember that smile
Now I’m a ghost
She can’t see or hear
What a year
Another “almost”
She looks like a cat
Her claws painted red
The mice fall flat
Pretending they’re dead
She looks like a cat
Her eyes lined in black
I’ll scratch her back
And give her a snack
Stare in space
Stars in her eyes
She’s in touch
But communication’s tough
She looks like a cat
Her claws painted red
The mice fall flat
Pretending they’re dead
She sleeps like a cat
Curled up in a ball
But when I call
I’ll be her welcome mat

Princess Tristesse

PRINCESS TRISTESSE
Princess Tristesse
Who stained your party gown?
Did you miss the taxi that took
All your boyfriends downtown
Ice cream makeup melting
In the daybreak
When you wake up
With a headache and heartbreak
Princess Tristesse
How do you stand so tall?
When your heels are broken
And your spirit’s gone
There’s a strength within
You’ve only now discovered
Under the porcelaine

The One Thing You Don't Want

THE ONE THING YOU DON’T WANT
What I’ve got to offer
Is the one thing you don’t want
You want me to suffer
And I don’t want to stop
I can read between the lines
And it’s an empty space
But this is where you led me
And it’s a lonely place
Mechanical clocks and polka dots
Decorate your room
You left me outside looking in
But it’s a lovely view
We almost met by chance one night
A coincidence
Establishing foreshadowing
What happened four months hence
So close so warm inviting more
Then out of the blue
You left me outside looking in
Is this what we’ve come to?

I'm Afraid I'll Dream About You

I’M AFRAID I’LL DREAM ABOUT YOU
I used to think anything happened for a reason
Well that’s ridiculous
Life’s a fun house mirror
Broken in the dark
Don’t bother me
I don’t want to dream about you
Don’t text or call
I want to forget it all
Just one night
It was Like at first sight
I don’t want to see you
I’m afraid I’ll dream about you
It’s nothing take a break really busy see you later
Is that how you get to know someone
You could have said I’m a bore and you could do much greater
With almost anyone
Don’t bother me
I don’t want to dream about you
Don’t text or call
I want to forget it all
Just one night
It was Like at first sight
I don’t want to see you
I’m afraid I’ll dream about you

Dancers Want To Be Models

THE DANCERS WANT TO BE MODELS
Your voice is a blur
But I hear every word you speak
And then it occurs
You’re the reason my heart is weak
I could smell your perfume
It lingered when you left the room
I didn’t know where you went
You’re different since the accident
The dancers want to be models
The models want to be actresses
Actresses want to be singers
And I want to stay home
Somebody mentioned your name
I felt as if it was a game
They saw you walk in the rain
Drinking from a bottle of pink Champagne
The dancers want to be model
The models want to be actresses
Actresses want to be singers
And I want to stay home

Performance in November

I'll be playing at the Delmar Farmers Market on Saturday, November 24, from 9-11:00. I'm not a morning person, but it should be fun. I'll be playing my own songs, plus I'm working up some covers of The Cure, The Smiths, The Psy Furs, The Clientele, and Dubstar.

Who's Afraid of Sasha Grey

WHO’S AFRAID OF SASHA GREY?
Cupcake muffin candy cat food
Nurses needles and strong arms
Uniformed Candy Stripers
With their orthopedic charms
A submissive is the boss of you
The slaves are put in charge
One look from her will stop your heart
As she suffers for her art
Who’s afraid of Sasha Grey?
Don’t make it too complex to follow
Plausibility is key
If the plot’s too hard to swallow
We’re unconvinced by what we see
For most of us the choices stick
Some of us escape
We live inside the thick of it
They just walk away
Who’s afraid of Sasha Grey?

IRL

IRL
It took months to meet IRL
You’re sitting in the dark, beautiful
Not even looking for me, is that cynical?
Flash a smile and look away, is that typical?
Am I just a page from your social media?
Is this just a stage of social Schizophrenia?
A textrovert without her thumbs becomes less a comedienne
Have expectations come undone from social tedium?
There will be no you and me, I can tell
No messages to read speak of spell
No room for hope Heartbreak Hotel
Delete from history my URL
Am I just a page from your social media?
Is this just a stage of social Schizophrenia?
A textrovert without her thumbs becomes less a comedienne
Have expectations come undone from social tedium?

The Girl With Blue Hair

THE GIRL WITH BLUE HAIR
That’s my reoccurring dream
It’s an endless nightmare
A gothic Myspace beauty queen
I’ve got jpegs somewhere
I regret I’m at a loss
All this effort wasted
She’s preserved in semigloss
I’m annihilated
You got my number But you never text it
It’s almost summer
Time we just forget it
Some obsession with the past
I can’t quite remember
Messages behind the glass
But who is the sender?
My anxiety’s unclear
About the girl with blue hair
You’re my reoccurring dream
It’s an endless nightmare
You got my number But you never text it
It’s almost September
Time we just forget it

I Break

I BREAK
Don’t hurt me
At least not intentionally
I break too easily
I’m good when things go as they should
But when they fail, the end of the fairytale
I’m falling
This is what I hoped it would be
No stalling
It’s full speed ahead for me
When in doubt I know we’ll figure out what’s best for us
We’ll always have that trust
I’m waiting
It will happen eventually
You’ll be crying
You won’t talk or even look at me
Many thanks but I’ll fill in the blanks with memories
They’ll make good company

Are You Unreal?

ARE YOU UNREAL?
Are you unreal You are unreal
The deal that broke between us
Makes me feel
You’re rare and valuable
Peerless and admirable
I can’t afford you I’ve no exchange value
Spinning down
I can’t tell you
I’ve begun the downward spiral
There’s no revival
She’s hot and cool
What was I thinking
There’s no future
When the sun is sinking
You’re rare and valuable
A koan or parable
You’re all concealment from my point of view
My grip is slipping
No way of stopping
Who am I kidding
She was only window shopping
You’re rare and valuable
 Incomparable
You’re my exclusive and the most elusive
